The Tree

Whatever happened to the tree?
I played in it once or twice
When I was young and smart
It was in the yard where we lived
It looked so big to me
Branches stretching out and up
I had a hut up in that tree
Four walls and a floor
Didn’t have a roof, I liked the rain
Then I grew up, moved away
Lived in the city, got a job
Had my own young family
I went home the other week
And there it stood still
Looking the same
We all grow up, get bigger
Change our plans
But hey, not the tree
It stays the same, always big
Stretching up and out
Waiting for us to come home
