Adventure

Flat distant horizon
Stretching forever onward
Unbelievable distance
As far as the eye can see
Jackrabbit nibbles cactus
Ears alert for sound
Haze of heat on tarmac
Dust blows in a swirl
Rattle snake slithers
Under the rock in shade
Here I stand and wonder
What’s at the end?
Wild dog howls loneliness
Out here in the desert
Adventure begins
If you can find the water
I lock the door
And walk
