Christchurch

City of gardens
Avon River
Beautiful under winter’s naked trees
Flowing cold and shallow
Cathedral reaches out
Dwarfed by bigger buildings
Statement of our past and of our future
Ponds and trees in the botanical gardens
Stunning frosted branches in the morning
Sway in afternoon’s breeze
Ducks swim above the Carp
Gathering for tossed bread
Tram runs a circuit, Museum, city and back
Buses flow, people hurry and mingle in
The square, poets’ stage.
People relax, play giant chess, hassle the wizard
Saturday rugby, all the family, mud and sweat,
Ice cream on the pier at New Brighton
Snow on the hills overlooks the city and the port.
Fishing, shipping, work.
Hopes and dreams.
This city
Christchurch
