Teenage Life

Anguished cries of frustration and need
Screams of a soul attempting to make sense
Of a world of indifference and blindness
To the need to be heard and understood
Treated as a child, wanting to be adult
Struggling with the pangs of emerging maturity
And the related issues of sex and learning of self
Confidence wanes and self image stressed
Trying to balance the needs of classroom
And friendships and racial requirements
Cultural identity beckons as do friends and parties
Threaded in with sexuality and boys and girls
Desires barely disguised by looking cool
Wrestling with parental control
Wanting boundaries to stretch
And stay the same.
