Grey Metal Crunch

Scream rending crunching
Naked shrieking of guttural fear
Gushing rivers of red tinted reality
Tearing, ripping of human meat
Fumes and lights flashing
Faces in the torchlight
Probing, touching, feeling
Bending, straightening, strapping
On the scene, doing the job
Assessing, testing, making sure
Working when all seems trashed
Limitless giving and caring
Without expectation of renewal
The hope of life saved
And underneath, a nagging loneliness
Assuaged perhaps by love
Tomorrow is another day
We wait and hope and pray
